An increasing number of original equipment manufacturers are endorsing the use of lower biodiesel blends. As an alternative fuel source it is hard to beat the ease with which it can be made and its positive impact on the environment.
The main problem with bio-fuels today is the source of the raw materials. Something needs to be done and targets have been set, the United States is the only developed country that has not ratified the treaty and yet it is one of the significant greenhouse gas emitters. Used vegetable oils along with sewage are all being used to produce biodiesel these days.
An engine that runs on biodiesel is much healthier so the saving is not just by the biodiesel cost compared to petrodiesel but by the maintenance costs. As with all cars, however, there are also downsides, as use of bio-diesels in vehicles increases nitrogen oxide, which is also a harmful pollutant, contributing to acid rain, ground-level ozone, and global warming, among other things. The dilemma seems to be that biodiesel is undoubtedly greener than traditional petroleum based fuel.
Having a wasteful attitude has been exacerbated by the lack of proper education in the basic skills of survival. When you make the biodiesel yourself the average saving is more than fifty percent.
