An excellent alternative to fossil fuel is biodiesel. Biodiesel is bio-degradable, clean-burning, non-toxic, and works in any diesel engine without modifications.
Rapeseed or soybean oil is most commonly used to make this alternative fuel. That s right, it the same stuff we all use to cook with everyday. Since biodiesel can readily be used in current diesel engines without having to modify them, it has the potential to supplement the use of petroleum-based fuels as a primary energy source to fill up the need of the world's transportation sector.
Biodiesel prices are expected to decrease as petroleum prices are expected to continue to increase in the world market. Bio-diesel reduces carbon emissions. Something needs to be done and targets have been set, the United States is the only developed country that has not ratified the treaty and yet it is one of the significant greenhouse gas emitters.
Honest debate not influenced by individual hidden agenda's is the only way to arrive at political choices that embrace all the issues surrounding the use of biofuel. When you make the biodiesel yourself the average saving is more than fifty percent.
